Jeremy Renner writes and performs his own theme songs for The Avengers, The Bourne Legacy (Shoot Somebody), and Mission Impossible/The Town on his Saturday Night Live Monologue on November 17, 2012.
We have all discovered Renner in our own little ways. Some of us long before his name had been the lead of a film and some of us knew him for a while as the “hot guy” from the Avengers. However you discovered him it is needless to say, but here you are as I am in awe of a man twice our age.
There is something majestic about an actor that can turn you on even as they portray a vile and disturbed serial killer as Jeremy did in Dahmer. The same man can turn around and make your heart flutter as the loveable, lost Ned whose tears were never short of an “I can’t even” reaction from any one of us. As his film credits grew he made a conscious decision to choose rich, conflicted, and deeply flawed characters that he can develop as his own and therefore imprinting a little bit of himself in each one.
Some actors are pigeon held in a specific role and can’t shake the expectation of reprising the same character in hopes of maintaining longevity in Hollywood, but watch Jeremy in any number of his films, particularly his indie roles and you will find his desperation in TAKE, his sacrifice in 28 Weeks later, his bad influence in INGENIOUS, his pain in 12 and Holding, and leadership in the Hurt Locker. They are never the same character, but they are all the same man.
He is the type of actor that has the ability to play any character with such vulnerability and a sense of innocence that you can’t help but root for him. Even as bad boy Bobby Sharp and Brian Gamble we all were hoping he’d get his shit together and do the right thing. However, this is the beauty of the Renner. Though his renegade cowboy swag always finds a way to bust out at the seams of his clothes he still maintains a goofball persona as evidenced from the myriad of interviews and press junkets from which glorious gifs have been made. At the end of the day he’s still just a regular guy that you can lay back and moonshine with.
This is what I love about Jeremy. His humble roots leave no room for bullshit, and his simple needs of a guitar or piano are enough to satiate his creative appetite. He’s a man with talented hands that build homes and plant fruitful trees; a man of action rather than a man of driveling words that bleed the ears. A Cali born gunslinger that once dreamed of being a ninja, and of course his sun kissed complexion isn’t too bad either. Jeremy Renner is a man, who at 42 reminds us that it’s never too late to pursue your dreams, for dreams can come true at any age.
Happy Birthday Jeremy!
